Marauders earn no. 2 ranking in PSAC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville University men's soccer has been ranked no. 2 in the Eastern Division of the 2019 PSAC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll. The Marauders will try to build on a supremely successful 2018 season that saw the team capture its second-ever PSAC Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history.
The PSAC men's soccer landscape looks different in 2019. With the addition of Shepherd University, the conference now consists of an Eastern Division and a Western Division. Joining Millersville in the Eastern Division is Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Lock Haven, Shepherd, Shippensburg and West Chester. The top three teams in each division will qualify for the PSAC Tournament at the end of the season. West Chester was selected no. 1 in the East in the 2019 Preseason Poll. Both Millersville and West Chester received three first place votes, with no. 4 Lock Haven receiving a single first place vote.
Offensively, the Marauders lost their two top scorers to graduation. The attack will be anchored in 2019 by senior Jacob Gosselin (four goals and four assists in 2018) and sophomore Spencer Shortt (two goals and seven assists). Millersville has proven that goals can be generated from any player on the pitch, as 14 different Marauders tallied at least one goal in 2018.
The Marauders defense should once again be intimidating. Senior goalkeeper Darian McCauley leads a back line that includes junior Nathan Maynard, who was named to the United Soccer Coaches Association Division II All-Atlantic Region Third Team. McCauley also earned that same recognition with a spot on the All-Atlantic Region Second Team.
2019 marks Marauders' head coach Steve Widdowson's 13th season leading the program. His teams have made 10 PSAC Tournament appearances and competed in five PSAC championship games. Widdowson is a three-time PSAC Coach of the Year.
Millersville finished the 2018 campaign with a 10-4-6 overall record. The four losses were the program's fewest since the 2009 season. The Marauders finished second in the PSAC regular season standings, just a single point behind first place West Chester, after being selected no. 5 in the 2018 PSAC Preseason Poll.
