Marauders win PSAC East with sweep of Lock Haven

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - No. 17 Millersville rolled to an 11-4 win over Lock Haven in game one of Friday's doubleheader and was officially crowned PSAC East champion in the third inning of game two when Bloomsburg's 4-3 loss to West Chester became final. But the Marauders didn't need any help. Behind Drew Miller's five shutout innings and Ben Snyder's four RBIs, the Marauders completed the sweep with an 11-0 game two win.

Millersville (36-11, 22-4 PSAC East) entered the day with a two-game lead over Bloomsburg and won the PSAC East for the first time since 2016 and the seventh time since 2008. The division title gives Millersville a No. 1 seed in the PSAC Tournament which starts on Wednesday in Johnstown, Pa.

GAME 1 RECAP (MILLERSVILLE 11, LOCK HAVEN 4)
Jimmy Cain drove in four runs, Snyder drove in three and Cole Friese went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBIs and his team-leading 11th homer of the season. Dominic Hardaway had three singles.
Eli Nabholz (9-1) won his ninth consecutive decision, putting him first in the PSAC in wins. Nabholz pitched four shutout innings until giving up three in the fifth. He totaled 4 2/3 innings and struck out three. Paul Wilson struck out two in a perfect sixth. Kris Pirozzi struck out two in the seventh.
• Cain broke the scoreless tie in the third with a bases-load, three-run double in the third inning. Friese's two-run homer came in the fourth and gave Millersville a 6-0 lead. Lock Haven pulled within 6-3 in the fifth, but the Marauders scored five in the sixth including three on Ben Snyder's bases-loaded double.

GAME 2 RECAP (MILLERSVILLE 11, LOCK HAVEN 0)
Drew Miller pitched five shutout innings, giving up just one single in the third. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Miller exited with the Marauders leading 8-0 in the fifth. Alex Mykut and senior Mike Mock both pitched shutout innings in relief.

• Snyder went 2-for-3 with a walk, four RBIs, stolen base and run scored. He hit a three-run home run in the fourth. Friese reached base three times and scored twice. Jimmy Losh singled and scored twice. Kaylor Kulina doubled in two in the fifth. Bobby Dorta, in his first at bat of the season, doubled in the sixth inning.
• Just like in game one, it was Cain who broke the 0-0 tie. With two outs in the third, Cain hit a high fly to right that glanced off the right fielders' glove, allowing two runs to scored. Two more unearned runs crossed in the inning. The Marauders added four in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

WHAT COACH JON SHEHAN HAD TO SAY
• "The PSAC East is tough every year. There are always good teams. The top four or five teams this year are really good. It was awesome for these kids to go out and put together a really good conference season so far."
"It's scary when [Cain, Snyder and Hardaway] to start driving in runs together. All three were hot a different points this season but if we can keep that going into the final weeks it will be really fun."
"Earlier in the year he wasn't sharp at all. But the fastball velocity is back up, both breaking balls and the change-up are working. It just seems like every outing for the last four or five weeks he's gotten sharper and sharper."

NOTES
• Millersville recognized eight seniors prior to their final regular season home games at Cooper Park. The group included: Nick Graham, Dominic Hardaway

• The 11 runs in both games marked the second time this season that the Marauders scored double-digit runs in both games of a doubleheader.
• Millersville is now 11-1 against Lock Haven in games at Cooper Park.
