MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville men's soccer team is the defending PSAC tournament champion and begins its quest to repeat on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., against Mercyhurst. The Marauders earned a first-round bye and hosting duties for this year's tournament due to their first-place finish in the PSAC East standings. Mercyhurst defeated Slippery Rock 3-0 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon. That game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Marauders are well-rested and have not been in action since last Saturday against Bloomsburg when they claimed a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from senior Jacob Gosselin and freshman Bob Hennessey.

Millersville has won two straight games against Mercyhurst, including a wild 4-3 win in 2018. The last time the two teams met in the PSAC tournament was in 2016's championship game, which Mercyhust won 2-1. Thanks to the PSAC division realignment this fall, the Lakers are only the second team from the PSAC West the Marauders will have faced in 2019. They hosted then-No.8-ranked Gannon University on Sept. 25, with the Golden Knights claiming a 2-1 victory.

Gannon and West Chester will meet in the other PSAC tournament semifinal at Pucillo Field on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE MARAUDERS
  • The Marauders were awarded postseason honors from the PSAC on Wednesday. Jacob Gosselin was named Eastern Division Athlete of the Year and head coach Steve Widdowson was named Eastern Division Coach of the Year. McCauley, Gosselin, Nathan Maynard, and Matteo Adiletta were named to the All-PSAC East First Team. Ethan Woods and Bobby Wells were named to the All-PSAC East Second Team.
  • Millersville senior goalkeeper Darian McCauley earned a clean sheet last time out against Shepherd University. It was his fifth shutout of 2019 and gives him 23 in his career, one shy of tying the program record of 24 set by Matt Langione from 2007-2010.
  • This is the fifth straight season the Marauders have qualified for the PSAC tournament and Friday marks the first time the team has hosted a tournament game since a quarterfinal against Seton Hill in 2017.
