Marauders defeat Shepherd 1-0 to keep historic win streak alive

Shepherdstown, W.Va. – The two seniors on the Millersville women's soccer team combined for the only goal of the game in the Marauders' 1-0 win over Shepherd University on Saturday afternoon. Amanda McElhare connected with Kay Liebl and it proved to be the difference in the game.

The program-record winning streak remains intact as the historic start to the 2019 season continues, improving the team's overall record to 9-0 (7-0 in PSAC play.)

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
•  Shots were launched early and often for the Marauders. Michelle Belcher fired one in the 3rd minute, Morgan Winchock had an opportunity off a Cassie Blyth corner kick in the 11th minute, and Kay Liebl tried a header in the 12th minute but all were denied by Shepherd keeper Lulu Fricks, who made four saves in the game.

•  The two Marauders' seniors ratcheted up the offensive pressure in the 31st minute. Amanda McElhare received a ball in behind the Shepherd defense and played the ball across the box to Liebl, who ran onto it and tucked it away into the far corner for her program-leading 34th career goal.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
• On today's performance: "Thought we played pretty well today. We created lots of chances but couldn't find the back of the net. Unfortunately, that's how things go sometimes and we need to take our chances better. However, we will enjoy the win and focus on the next game.

• On getting every opponent's best effort each and every game: "As a competitor you always want to get everyone's best and we should expect that. We've found a level of success and you have to manage the things that come with success."

• On preparation for the upcoming week (games vs. East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg): "This week we must continue to grow. Offensively we were good in possession today but we must continue to raise our level overall. Our decision-making and execution will be critical this week."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
