MANSFIELD, Pa. –Â
Kay Liebl's hat trick, capped off by a brilliant 30-yard strike in the 60
th minute, propelled the Millersville women's soccer team past Mansfield, 5-1. Liebl's three goals and one assist in the match also vaulted her past Becky Morris on the program's all-time points list. Liebl now holds the current Millersville records for both career goals (37) and career points (89.)
The Marauders opened the scoring in the 11
th minute courtesy of
Michelle Belcher and did not let up the offensive pressure in the first half. Liebl added two goals in the span of about a minute, then
Savannah Rennix booted another home to make it 4-0 at the half.
The victory improves Millersville's record to 12-2-1 (10-2-1 PSAC) in 2019 and solidifies second place in the PSAC East standings. The Marauders have a chance to best last season's win total of 14 but that would require the team to win its last three regular season games.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville flooded the offensive third of the field early against the Mountaineers earning a corner kick in the 11
th minute.
Kay Liebl trotted over to the corner flag and whipped in a fantastic cross to the far post.
Michelle Belcher rose up and nudged the ball into the net with her hip to give the Marauders the 1-0 lead.
• Keeping up the pressure in the 14
th minute, Liebl won the ball from a standing tackle and charged forward toward goal. She dialed up a long distance shot and deposited it into the bottom right corner of the net to make it 2-0.
• Just a minute later, some brilliant touch passing from the Ville led to a third goal.
Morgan Winchock received the ball in the middle of the pitch and quickly found Belcher, who then sent the ball up top to Liebl who was one-on-one with a defender. Staying onside, Liebl scored for the second time in a minute to give her squad the 3-0 lead.
• Winchock came through with more top-class distribution in the 37
th minute, playing a ball through to
Savannah Rennix with lots of space to run onto it. Rennix left-footed it past the keeper for the 4-0 advantage at halftime.
• Mansfield's Cay McNichol was able to put the Mountaineers on the board with a goal in the 59
th minute, but Liebl responded with a wonderstrike in the 60
th. All alone near the top of the box ,Liebl dribbled right, cut the ball back to her left, and looped the shot towards goal. It ricocheted off the crossbar and into the net to complete Liebl's hat trick and the 5-1 Millersville victory.

• With the win, Millersville's all-time record versus Mansfield improves to 14-6-4, including five consecutive wins.
• In the two contests between the Marauders and Mountaineers in 2019 a total of 14 combined goals were scored.
• Liebl set the all-time Millersville career goals record against Mansfield back on Oct. 2.
• Only three games remain in the regular season. The Marauders play two of the three at home.
