Shippensburg hands No. 12 Millersville second loss of season, 1-0

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. –  The No. 12-ranked Millersville women's soccer team took the pitch on Wednesday against Shippensburg after a week of rest, but even fresh legs could not contain the Raiders counterattack in the 59th minute, when Izzy Weigel scored the only goal of the match to give Shippensburg the eventual 1-0 victory. It is only the second time Millersville has lost a game this season and Shippensburg's goal was only the sixth the team has allowed in 2019. The Marauders attempted 20 shots compared to 12 from the Raiders, but none could get past Shippensburg goalkeeper Kasey Doss.

Millersville's overall record now moves to 11-2 overall and 9-2 in PSAC play. The PSAC East standings now begin to shift, as the Marauders drop into a three-way-tie for second place along with West Chester and East Stroudsburg. All three are chasing first place Bloomsburg, who is six points clear.

The PSAC playoff picture may clarify after Saturday, when Millersville travels to West Chester for a critical match.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior Kay Liebl earned Millersville's first real chance in the 32nd minute. Getting free of defenders on the left side of the box, Liebl launched a cross to Kylie Sullivan on the near side of the field, but Sullivan had too tough of an angle and the shot was drilled into the side netting.
• After a scoreless first half, freshman Reagan Kolinski had to make an exceptional save in the 53rd minute to keep it that way. A wacky bounce of the ball into the box led to an opportunity for Alyse Caffrey. She poked it with her right foot towards the left post but Kolinski dove to her right to collect it and keep the clean sheet intact.
•  Just six minutes later, in the 59th, a very quick counterattack from Shippensburg would get them on the scoreboard. Caffrey received the ball just past midfield and slotted a perfectly weighted through ball to Izzy Weigel. Weigel stayed onside, maintained composure, and deposited what would turn out to be the game-winning goal into the bottom left corner of the net.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
