Marauders fall in double overtime against Bloomsburg

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The No. 3-ranked Millersville field hockey team braved the heavy rains through just over 78 minutes of field hockey, but a miracle goal by the Huskies with 2:35 left in the second overtime avoided the inevitable shootout.

Bloomsburg's Kristen Robinson collected the ball off a deflection making a hurried back-handed shot for the goal to end it all and give the Huskies the 1-0 win.

Millersville's record is now 11-3 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg improves to 4-11 and 2-5 in the PSAC. This was the second time Millersville has seen play in double overtime this season. The Marauders saw their first double overtime against Kutztown last Thursday. The game ended in a shootout.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Bloomsburg wasted no time attacking the cage, but the Marauders' defensive team halted the efforts. Cheyenne Ott dribbled the ball from the 35-yard line to the top of the circle where she met Jordan Goddard. Goddard followed her around the outside of the circle jabbing at the ball before knocking it lose.
• Three minutes later the Marauders fired back with an attack on the Huskies' goal. Erica Tarsi passed the ball off to the left to Emma Boutcher. With the Bloomsburg goalie coming out of goal, Boutcher fired a shot ricocheting off the Bloomsburg defense and into the pads of the goalie.
• It was Ott who answered back for the Huskies making a second attempt to get on the board at the end of the first quarter. She sent a back-handed rocket from the left side of the circle toward the goal that proved to be no match for Peters who dived to get a glove on it clearing it out to the opposite side of the field.
• The Marauders saw yet another opportunity to take the lead 21 minutes into the game. Alexis Gazzio's shot was stopped by the Bloomsburg defense right inside the circle, but the deflection landed at the stick of Tarsi in prime scoring position. Tarsi took the sweeping shot stopped right on the goal line by the Bloomsburg defense.
• Millersville stepped up their game in overtime fighting to get the game-winning goal. With five minutes left in the first overtime, Boutcher sent a shot to the cage from the bottom right edge of the circle. The ball found the stick of the Huskies' defense. After an attempt to clear the ball over the line, Boutcher collected the ball in the air off the bounce and got off a second shot to Kyra Brakefield out front of the goalie, but Hannah Barnard quickly made the save and the Bloomsburg defense spun it out to clear the circle.

COACH SHELLY BEHRENS QUOTES
• "There are some little things we can do better for sure, but I am proud of them. It was a great performance by Bloomsburg, they won the night by finishing and we just couldn't find the back of the net. It falls on us to, when we have the opportunities, to finish the opportunities. For as mature as we are, we could react better to some things. I'm just waiting for them to learn something. I keep saying that when you learn something, remember it. We just have to remember and move forward. I thought Autumn Peters played great tonight and Jordan Goddard played great. There were some adverse conditions, but I thought we handled those things. It's just a matter of finishing."
• "When we're in that 7-on-7 scenario, I think the kids understand our game plan and they cover for each other well. We defended well in all parts of the field. When you let the game go and go and you don't finish your opportunities, it's going to get the best of you at some point. This is the only game I know that you can dominate and not get the outcome you want. It falls on us to find a way to be better."
