Men’s soccer plays to draw with Seton Hill

Greensburg, Pa. – For the fourth-straight match, the Millersville University men's soccer squad played into a second overtime and closed with a draw. The Marauders forged a 1-1 tie with Seton Hill in the first conference match of the season, which was hosted at Dicks Sporting Goods Field on Friday afternoon.

The Marauders moved to 2-1-4 and 0-0-1 in PSAC play while the Griffins stayed undefeated and earned their second tie in conference play.

The last time the Marauders had four ties in a season was 18 years ago in 2000. In program history, there has only been four teams to have earned four or more ties in a season. It has never happened in succession.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Freshman Spencer Shortt's corner kick found senior Kyle Finsterbush's head for the first goal of the game in the 11th minute. From the right side, Shortt's crossed the ball for Finsterbush, who was in front of the goalie and knocked the ball into the bottom right of the goal.
• The Griffins equalized the match at one on a Liam Kettle goal off a Lloyd Davies corner kick in the 34th minute. Kettle was a few feet away from the left post and headed the ball into the right side.
• On a free kick opportunity for Seton Hill in the 33rd minute, the attacker kicked the ball toward the top right corner of the goal but goalkeeper Darian McCauley dove and made a miraculous save with stretched out arms to keep the game scoreless.
• An early chance for the Marauders came within the first six minutes of the game. A clear by Seton Hill was intercepted at the top of the box and passed to Shortt who shot it high over the crossbar.
• Another near-miss for the Marauders came in the 20th minute when senior Chase Flickinger kicked the ball into the net but a foul was called on Millersville and the goal wavied off.
• The overtime periods saw chances for each team to score the game-winner but neither converted. In the first overtime period, a corner kick by Shortt found the foot of Flickinger but the shot was saved.

HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON QUOTES
• "It was a very tight, typical PSAC battle between two good teams. It certainly could have gone either way, but we will take a tough road trip tie to start conference play."
• "[The goal] was a good set piece. We had a good service from a corner and Bubba (Finsterbush) attacked the ball well. We had a few other half chances from corners but couldn't find the second goal unfortunately."
• "[Spencer Shortt] has been doing well the last few games, and that's why he earned the start today. He has been threatening every game and glad to see him with another assist. The next step in his development will be to get himself a goal and I feel that will come very soon."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Finsterbush recorded his first goal of his senior year campaign while Shortt tallied his fourth assist.
• McCauley finished the game with 11 saves for the Marauders while Austin Iddon of the Griffins had three. McCauley's 11 was a season high.
• Flickinger had a season-high five shots against the Griffins' defense. Shortt also earned a season high three shots and his longest time on the field with 97 minutes.
