Johnstown, Pa. - Millersville will play in the PSAC Championship game for the fourth time in the last five years after beating Bloomsburg 6-1 Saturday morning.
Cordell Shannon held one of Division II's top lineups in check over eight innings and was aided by home runs from
Cole Friese and
Ben Snyder.
Millersville now waits to find out its opponent and time of the championship game. If Seton Hill defeats Shippensburg, the Marauders and Griffins will match up Saturday afternoon at approximately 5 p.m. If Shippensburg wins, it will force a second game between the two teams and keep Millersville off the field until Sunday.
Bloomsburg entered the game ranked third in Division II in on base percentage but struggled to solve Shannon. The Millersville lefty gave up just three hits and one unearned run over eight innings, striking out five. He struck out the side in the eighth inning. Shannon won his fourth consecutive postseason start, and has allowed just 13 hits and four total runs over his last 26 2/3 postseason innings.
Kaylor Kulina and
Jimmy Cain hit doubles to stake Shannon to a 1-0 lead in the first, and in the second, Friese blasted a three-run home run over the 50-foot wall in left field. Snyder's solo home run in the fifth put Millersville up 5-1. Cain added his second RBI of the game and fifth of the tournament with a sacrifice fly, which plated Kulina.
Kulina, who had started the tournament 0 for 9, delivered three hits and scored two runs.
Ted Williams reached base three times with a pair of walks and a single. His first walk of the game was the 116th of his career, giving him the all-time Millersville record for walks.
