Story Links

West Chester, Pa. – The Millersville University men's tennis team won 5-4 over West Chester on Thursday afternoon where the match was determined by the No. 5 singles match.

The last time that the Marauders won against a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent was when the team defeated Bloomsburg in 2013, 7-2.

Millersville's No. 5 singles Erich Nagel secured the team win with a third set victory over Lucien DeCecco of West Chester. DeCecco won the first set 7-5 and then Nagel claimed the second set 6-3 to advance the match to a third set. Nagel won the third set, 6-2. Nagel earned his first dual match victory of his career. That victory put the Marauders up 5-3 with one match left.

At No. 1 singles, junior Peter Landis won both sets, 6-4 over Lucas Von der Heyde to put the Millersville lead at 4-3.

Sophomore Jose Alcazar captured a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 singles match. Alcazar won his third match of the season.

In the first match of the day (No. 3 doubles), freshman Brandon Miller and Nagel started the day with an 8-1 win. Then, junior Peter Landis and freshman Ben Fellman battled West Chester's No. 1 doubles team for the Marauders to claim a 8-6 victory to take a 2-0 lead.

The Marauders return back to action on the final home match of the season when they host Daemen on Saturday, April 14 at 2 p.m.
