Philadelphia, Pa. – The Millersville University softball team went 1-1 in a doubleheader against Jefferson University Tuesday afternoon. The Marauders won 7-2 in game one and lost 4-3 in the second game. The second game ended at the bottom of the fifth inning due to the darkness.
The Marauders had 14 hits through both games. Last week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Co-Player of the Week freshman
Faith Willenbrock went 4 for 5 bring in two runs and a double.
GAME 1
The Marauders opened a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning and never looked back. Willenbrock singled up the middle to get on base then stole second and advanced to third on junior
Maggie Murphy's ground out. Pitcher
Catherine Johnson connected with her first hit as a Marauder, scoring Willenbrock for the first run of the day.
Right after Johnson got on base, freshman
Allie Janowiak reached first on an error by the second baseman. Junior Morgan Almovovar walked to load the bases. Freshman Devan Mascuilli lined a double to left field to score two.
Jefferson scored one run in the third and fourth inning, but in the fifth, sophomore
Rebecca Blatt knocked a two-run home run to left field to build the lead to 5-2.
The next half inning, Janowiak reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base. Almodovar singled to third base and Janowiak crossed the plate. Senior
Raeann Buskey finished the scoring with a home run to left center in the top of the seventh inning.
Johnson earned her first win on the mound by striking out six batters in six innings and only allowing three hits.
GAME 2
Jefferson rallied from a three-run deficit to win 4-3. All three of those came in the bottom of the fifth just before darkness set in, ending the game. Two at bats for both teams were wiped off the board. It was just the second-ever win for Jefferson over Millersville.
Mariah Ford gave Millersville a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer in the second. Millersville's lead stayed at 2-1 into the fifth when Janowiak laid down a bunt single, and Almodovar followed with a single. Mascuilli split the outfielders with a double to right center, driving in both runs.
But in the bottom of the inning, a two-run double put Jefferson within one at 4-3. Two batters later, Jefferson added another double and followed with a RBI single for the first lead of the game. Jefferson had bases loaded with two outs when the game was called.

The Marauders travel to the Shaw Challenge in Cary, N.C. where they will face five non-conference opponents. The first game is against West Virginia State on Friday, March 9 at 10 a.m.
