Marauders win first two games of Lake Erie series

Williamston, N.C. - Eli Nabholz struck out 10 in seven innings in an 8-2 game one victory, and in game two of Saturday's doubleheader with Lake Erie, the Marauders battled back from a three-run deficit to win, 10-6.

Manning Brookens hit a two-run home run in the opener, and Brandon White's three-run blast in game two served as a rally starter. Sophomore Eric Callahan totaled four hits, four RBIs and a pair of steals in doubleheader.

Millersville has played in Williamston, N.C., in seven of the last eight seasons, compiling a 26-3 record in the town.

The Marauders are back in Williamston Sunday for a single, nine-inning game against Lake Erie.

GAME 1
Nabholz picked up his first win of the season by going seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks while hitting double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time in his 16 starts as a Marauder. Millersville gave Nabholz a run in each of the first two innings, and the junior right-hander faced two over the minimum over his final five innings. He struck out nine of the last 12 batters he faced including five of the last six. The first two batters of the sixth reached on a single and a double, but Nabholz promptly struck out the side. He pitched a 1-2-3 seventh, retiring the first two batters via strikeout.

Dominic Hardaway started Millersville's scoring with a run-scoring double in the first. Kaylor Kulina drove in Callahan in the second to give Millersville a 2-1 lead. Lake Erie starter David Lemasters finished with 10 strikeouts himself, and he kept Millersville in check until Brookens smashed a two-run homer in the sixth. In the seventh, Callahan doubled in a run, Kulina plated his second run of the game, and Williams drove home one with a sacrifice fly.

Brookens and Kulina both went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Daniel Ross struck out three while working the ninth inning out of the bullpen.

GAME 2
Lake Erie scored four runs on three singles and a walk in the second, and led 6-4 as Millersville entered its half of the fifth. The inning prior, White cleared the bases with a three-run homer, and the momentum carried into the following inning as the Marauders sent 11 batters to the plate and scored five runs to take the lead for good. Millersville drew five walks, a hit batsman and received a single from Brookens and a two-run single from Callahan. It was Callahan's two-out knock that tied the score at 6-6, and Williams' bases-loaded walk put Millersville on top.

Millersville drew 11 walks and totaled 10 hits. Callahan went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a pair of steals. Brookens scored three runs. Williams went 1 for 1 with three walks, a run and one RBI.

Millersville starter Cordell Shannon gave up three earned runs and six total through four innings. Liam Grande notched his first career win after fanning five in two innings of relief work. Dylan Boisclair pitched a shutout seventh.
