Erie, Pa. - Gannon entered the weekend owners of a seven-game winning streak and the PSAC's top scoring defense. The Golden Knights extended that streak to eight and solidified their standing as the league's stingiest defense by beating Millersville, 86-60.
Gannon (13-5, 9-3 PSAC) improved to 8-1 at the Hammermill Center while holding Millersville to its second-lowest point total of the season and 38.5 percent shooting. Gannon shot 55.9 percent from the field, dropping Millersville to 0-9 when it allows an opponent to top 50 percent shooting. Gannon out-rebounded Millersville 42-20--the fewest rebounds by a Millersville team since January of 2016.
Marcus Adkison led Millersville with 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting. Freshman
D'Marco Suggs made 4 of 5 shots for 10 points, and freshman
James Sullivan added 10 points.
The game was decided in the final eight minutes of the first half when Gannon turned a 23-18 lead into an 18-point halftime lead, sinking 8 of 11 shots while Millersville missed 2 of 9 in the same span. To add insult to injury, the Golden Knights outscored Millersville 19-4 over a little more than six second-half minutes, extending its lead to as many 34.
Millersville had made a habit of forcing turnovers this season, ranking in the nation's top five in the category entering the game. Gannon, however, committed just 10 turnovers--the second fewest of any Millersville opponent this season.
Millersville returns to Pucillo Gymnasium Wednesday for a match-up with East Stroudsburg and then hosts Mansfield on Saturday.
