Millersville, Pennsylvania - Millersville's game one starter
Eli Nabholz tossed a complete game, and game two starter
Tyler Yankosky threw 6 2/3 shutout innings, stymieing Lock Haven, the PSAC's No. 2 offense, for wins by scores of 3-2 and 2-0 Friday at Cooper Park. The Marauders have now won seven of its last eight games.
Millersville and Lock Haven came into the weekend ranked third and fourth respectively in the NCBWA Atlantic Region, and Millersville's doubleheader sweep pushed it to 10-8 in East and 26-12 overall while Lock Haven dropped to 25-11 overall and 11-7 in the PSAC East. Nabholz (6-1) did not allow an earned run over seven innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six. Yankosky (4-0) worked into the seventh inning for his third consecutive start, scattering six hits while not allow a run. Yankosky improved to 3-0 in four starts against the PSAC East, posting a 2.12 ERA over 29 2/3 innings.
Mitch Stoltzfus led Millersville with three RBIs on the day, driving in two of Millersville's three runs in game one and a first-inning run in game two.
The Marauders close the series against Lock Haven Saturday.
GAME 1
A leadoff single from
Chas McCormick was followed by a stand-up triple from
Dan Neff. Stoltzfus pushed a ground ball to second base, getting Neff home for a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Stoltzfus built the lead to 3-0 in the third on another RBI groundout. That run proved key for the Marauders.
Nabholz escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third with a strikeout to end the inning, but in the fifth, a Millersville error opened the door to a pair of unearned runs, bringing Lock Haven within one run. Nabholz escaped another jam in the sixth by inducing a 4-6-3 double play, and after giving up a one-out double in the seventh, he struck out the last two batters to end the game.
McCormick went 2-for-3 with two runs. Neff went 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI, stolen base and a run.
GAME 2
Yankosky continued his run through the PSAC East, but Lock Haven made him earn it. The Bald Eagles put runners in scoring position in three times and at least one runner on base in five innings. With Millersville leading 2-0 in the fourth, Lock Haven loaded the bases with two outs, but a ground ball to
Eric Callahan ended the threat.
Lock Haven put a scare into the Marauders in the seventh, as well. A leadoff single and a two-out double and walk filled the bases against Yankosky. The Marauders called
Mike Mock from the bullpen, and the sophomore closer scored his fourth save by striking out the only batter he faced.
Millersville's runs came on a Stoltzfus single in the first and a
David Summerfield single in the third.
Stoltzfus went 2-for-2 with a RBI and run scored.
Mock has totaled 25 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings. Yankosky, now 4-0, has limited opponents to a team-best .206 batting average, and has allowed just nine earned runs and 20 hits over his last five starts spanning 33 2/3 innings.
