Raiders sink Marauders in PSAC match

Millersville, Pennsylvania - There were several close matches at Pucillo Gymnasium on Tuesday night in Millersville as the Raiders of Shippensburg challenged the Marauders. Challenged they were, as Shippensburg downed Millersville, 27-12. Despite Millersville staying close in most matches, the Raiders won all but two and those were forfeits in the Marauders' favor.

Shane Ruhnke and Colton Dull were the recipients of forfeit wins for Millersville, giving them each six points.

In the 184-pound weight class, Evan Morrill was defeated, 10-6. Morrill led 5-4 in the second period but could not sustain his lead. The first two periods were wrestled evenly with the score tied at five after the second. In the third period Shippensburg's Hunter Fenk took control and went on to win by decision.

At 133 pounds, Aaron Wildonger held his own for the Marauders, at one point cutting Shippenburg's Mike Hafer's 6-0 lead down to a 6-4 margin. Hafer stopped the potential comeback and was able to pull away in the third round, defeating Wildonger by a 12-5 decision.

Another back-and-forth match-up occurred in the 174-pound weight class in which Ryan Narber picked up the win for Ship over Millersville's Liam Frank, 8-4.

David Charles stayed close as well in the 149-pound weight class in what was low scoring match. Mike Springer went on to win 3-0 in the match.

At 157 pounds, D.J. Mele nearly pulled out a victory, losing 4-1 to Adam Martz. Mele came close to scoring big for the Marauders in the final seconds, but Martz was able to
stave off his attack.

The loss drops Millersville to 2-5 on the season. The Marauders' next competition comes in another home match on Feb. 3 against Pitt-Johnstown.
