Millersville, Pennsylvania - Nathan Delgado scored at the 2:05 mark before
Omar Guzman and
Kody Eberly added two goals late in the second to give Millersville a 3-0 victory over Slippery Rock Saturday.
Darian McCauley only registered two saves, but his strong play in the box prevented the Rock from getting on the board. Millersville totaled seven shots on goal to the Rock's two and had seven corner kicks in the win.
The Marauders got on the board in just the third minute when Eberly played a ball to Delgado who flicked it by the keeper. Slippery Rock nearly answered minutes later when Nick Sodini ripped a shot that was saved by McCauley. After the ball popped out, Sodini fired another one that hit the post.
Millerville began to control the pace of play and would have have five more shots before the break, but could not convert. The Rock nearly equalized before the break as Devin Hoffman played a ball in the box but McCauley scooped it up in the waning seconds of the half.
Neither side threatened early in the second, but with 27 minutes to play Slippery Rock chipped a ball into the box that McCauley snagged it by the penalty mark just before Sodini could get a touch. Minutes later,
Jacob Gosselin led the counter attack and played the ball on the left side to Guzman. Guzman sent a cross in towards a diving
Marcus Frangakis but it was deflected out of bounds by a Rock defender.
At the 18 minute mark,
Andrei Kin swung the ball in from the left side of the box where Guzman sent home a header to give the Marauders a two goal lead. The Rock threatened late when Justin Minda had a ball pop out to the top of the box from a corner kick that he sailed high of the net.
Millersville would tack a goal when
Dylan Fogerty stole the ball and played it to
Kody Eberly who placed it far post from just inside the box to lift the Marauders lead to 3-0.
Millersville improves to 4-1-1 (2-0-1) PSAC) on the year and will remain home, hosting Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday at 5 p.m.
