Millersville, Pa. – Brianna Andraos pitched brilliantly through the first five innings of game one for the Millersville softball team as it hosted Kutztown on Sunday afternoon, but the Golden Bears rallied for a 2-1 win before running away with game two by a score of 9-1.
Â
The athletic department and the softball team celebrated Senior Day before first pitch as Andraos was honored for her hard work and accomplishments over the past four years at Millersville.
Â
Millersville (26-18, 9-7 PSAC East) had the chance to clinch the No. 2 seed in the PSAC East for the postseason tournament with a split, but with the Kutztown sweep the Marauders will be the No. 3 seed and are slated to play either Seton Hill or Slippery Rock.
Â
The Marauders opened the scoring in the bottom of the first and were jump started by a
Heather Lutz leadoff double. Lutz advanced to third on a
Megan Hallock bunt single and later scored on a
Brittany Smith single through the left side of the infield.
Â
Andraos looked unhittable through the first couple of times through the Kutztown lineup, but the Golden Bears were able plate home a run in the sixth inning. Rachel Lawes began the inning with a single and advanced to third on two-straight fielder's choices. Lawes was able to score on a Blayse Cholish sacrifice fly. The Golden Bears made it 2-1 in the top of the seventh when Lawes singled home Justine Rossi.
Â
The Golden Bear offence jumped on game two starter
Cassidy Pinchorski immediately as she surrendered a Danielle Amato grand slam in the first inning and wasn't able to record an out before being replaced by Andraos. Kutztown who entered the contest as the second highest scoring team in the PSAC also had Andraos solved as she allowed five runs on six hits across five innings of work in the nightcap.
Â
The Marauders only managed three hits in the second game with
Heather Lutz accounting for two of them. Lutz doubled down the left field line in the third inning and scored on a
Megan Hallock ground out for Millersville's lone run.
Â
Millersville returns to action on Wednesday, April 27 when it will compete in the PSAC Tournament for the first time in program history. The tournament is a double elimination format and will take place in Quakertown, Pa.
