Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville softball team nearly rallied in game one before eventually falling 5-4 and in the nightcap the bats exploded early and often as it downed East Stroudsburg by a 10-2 score to earn the split.
Â
In game one, East Stroudsburg scored a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings and plated home the game-winning tally in the top of the seventh. The run proved crucial as the Marauders loaded the bases up with one out in the bottom of the inning and nearly completed the comeback. Down 5-2,
Megan Hallock got things going with a double to center field, which was followed up by a
Heather Lutz single that put runners on the corners.
Tori Kinsella walked to load the bases up for
Brittany Smith who smoked an RBI single. ESU starter Rachel Liguori walked
Kelsey Campbell to make it 5-4, but Liguori composed herself and retired the next two batters.
Â
Brianna Andraos (9-8) took the loss as she went the distance with four runs allowed on five hits as well as three walks and five strikeouts.
Â
In game two, B. Smith and
Maria Spinosa hit a pair of three-run homers in the first to put Millersville up 6-1 early. For Smith it was her third homer of the season and she now has 10, which moved her into a tie for sixth on the program's career home run chart.
Â
The 6-1 lead was more than enough support for
Cassidy Pinchorski in the circle. Pinchorski only allowed one earned run on six hits across five innings of work.
Â
ESU scored its final tally in the top of the third, but the Marauders scored four in the bottom half of the inning. Hallock put together a strong at-bat that saw her see eight pitches, before smacking an RBI single.
Kelsey Campbell hit a rocket to left center field to put the Marauders up 9-2.
Raeann Buskey joined the RBI party with a single up the middle for the Marauders final tally.
Â
For the day, B. Smith led Millersville with four hits in her seven at-bats to go with six RBIs.
Megan Hallock was 4-for-6 on the afternoon with three runs scored, a double, and one RBI. Hallock pushed her batting average to a season-best .319 and has had at least one hit in the last five games.
Â
Next up, Millersville travels to Shippensburg on Friday for a doubleheader.
