Six unanswered goals power Marauders to PSAC Final

Erie, Pennsylvania - After falling behind 1-0, Millersville scored six unanswered goals to defeat West Chester 6-1 Friday. Jaxson Burns tied the game at 1-1 before Christopher Sosa put Millersville ahead 2-1 and Jacob Gosselin followed it up with a pair of goals. Ethan Woods and Nathan Delgado tacked on another two goals late to lift Millersville to the 6-1 rout. The victory will send the Marauders to the PSAC Championship Sunday when the Marauders will face number one seed Mercyhurst at 1 p.m.

The Golden Rams threatened first, forcing a Darian McCauley save in the third minute that led to a corner kick. The Marauders would nearly strike in the12th when Nicholas Leinbach sent a header just wide of the net. In the 22nd minute, Brett Glasco played a through ball to the right side of the box where Colin Hester took it and placed the ball far-post for the first goal of the game.

In the 27th, Jeramey Robbins took a shot from the 18 that went just wide. After the two teams traded opportunities, Millersville earned a corner kick. After Kody Eberly swung the ball in, it bounced to the feet of Omar Guzman who fired the ball just high of the frame and the two sides went into the break with West Chester holding a 1-0 lead.

The Marauders came out agressive in the second, registering four shots and a corner kick but could not beat the keeper James Wood. In the 55th minute, Jeramey Robbins took the ball up the right side of the box and swung the ball into Jaxson Burns who one-timed it home to even the score 1-1.

Less than 10 minutes later, Nathan Delgado was taken down in the box setting up a penalty kick opportunity for Millersville. Christopher Sosa stepped up and drilled it to the lower left hand corner to give the Marauders their first lead of the day.

In the 76th minute, Jacob Gosselin took the ball on the right side of the box and lofted it off the post and into the goal to give Millersville a 3-1 lead. Gosselin would strike again in the 85th when a through ball was played from midfield that the freshman driblled in for his second goal of the game.

The offense kept coming for the Marauders as Ethan Woods registered his first career postseason goal followed by Nathan Delgado's fifth of the season to make the score 6-1 Millersville.

Darian McCauley totaled four saves en route to his 12th victory of 2016. Millersville outshot West Chester 20-12 with 11 shots on goal.

The Marauders improve to 12-5-2 (6-4-2 PSAC) and will play Mercyhurst for the conference championship Sunday at 1 p.m. The Lakers, who are 14-4-1 (10-1-0 PSAC), defeated Seton Hill in overtime 3-2 to advance to the championship.

Sunday's game will be a rematch between the two teams, as Mercyhurst edged out Millersville 4-3 last Saturday in Erie.
