Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- Members of the Millersville women's swim team walked at the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer's in Philadelphia Saturday.
Senior Meghan Hickey, senior Lizzie Ebert, junior Emily Fusco, sophomore Amira Washington, freshman Mallory Dyson and freshman Ariana Crossgrove particpated along with 7,356 other people in the two mile walk around the Citizens Bank Park. The Alzheimer's Association will use the 1.2 million dollars raised to support Alzheimer's patients and research a cure.
Head coach Kyle Almoney used the event as a way to promote goodwill in the community and comraderie with teammates during their two week hiatus between meets.
"Part of our core values is to serve and to give back," Almoney said. "One of our athletes, Meghan Hickey, has participated in this event for a few years and it really is a great event. We do a lot of events throughout the course of the year, and it's a great team bonding time. It's also a great way to give back and have a weekend off...At the end of the day those ladies that participated in the event made a difference, and anytime you can make it better, that's a win for everyone in my book."
The women's swim team's next event is Nov. 18-20 at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational in Lancaster, Pa.
