Men's soccer drops game at Cal

California, Pennsylvania - Four first-half goals powered California (Pa.) to a 5-1 victory over the Millersville men's soccer team Saturday. The Vulcans had 13 shots-on-goal to Millersville's seven and totaled 18 on the afternoon.

The Marauders had a couple of chances early, earning a corner kick that would result in a Nathan Delgado shot just wide of the net. Cal would quickly strike as Cory Kuzilla lofted a ball to Cooper Amos who sent a header in the back of the net to give the Vulcans a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Millersville had a pair of corner kicks but could not convert and Cal doubled their lead in the 31st when Christian Fletcher found Mike Cummings who scored the second goal of the game via a header.

Minutes later, Millersville would foul California in the box and Fletcher drilled the penalty kick to make the score 3-0. The Vulcans would keep the pressure on and strike for a fourth time in the 41st minute when Antonio Simora played a through ball to Matt Light who gave the Vulcans a 4-0 lead which they would take into the break.

Jaxson Burns nearly got Millersville on the board in the 47th when he fired a shot on net that was grabbed by Lucas Exner. Cal looked to add to its lead with a barrage of shots around the 50th minute, but Coby Breen recorded two of his six saves to keep the score 4-0. The Vulcans continued to press, but Millersville would finally get on the board in the 83rd when Raiyu Ayonto found Delgado who scored his third goal of the season.

The celebration would be short-lived however, as Cal tacked on their fifth goal of the game in the 85th minute when Exner found Nick Cichon on the right side and Chichon pushed the ball past Breen.

The 23rd-ranked Marauders now fall to 7-3-2 (4-2-2 PSAC) but return home Tuesday to host PSAC-rival Shippensburg at 7:30 p.m.
