Mercyhurst, Pennsylvania - Despite two goals from senior
Christopher Sosa and a third from
Nathan Delgado, the Millersville men's soccer team fell 4-3 at Mercyhurst Saturday. The Marauders, who travel to Gannon Tuesday for a PSAC Tournament matchup, registered six shots on goal and
Darian McCauley came up with seven saves in the effort against the Lakers.
It took less than two minutes for Millersville to pull ahead of top team in the PSAC as
Christopher Sosa chipped the keeper from the 18-yard line to put the Marauders up 1-0.
Darian McCauley was immediately challenged and responded with a pair of saves before the Lakers drew even in the 13th minute when Thom Derks placed a shot in the lower left corner to make the score 1-1.
In the 22nd, Millersville would get fouled in the box and Sosa would score his fourth goal of the season to put the Marauders back on top 2-1. Once again, Mercyhurst would draw even in the 38th as Connor Wilkinson took the ball on the right side of the box and beat McCauley to make the score 2-2.
It was the Lakers turn to strike first in the second half as Wilkinson lofted a ball to Derks who volleyed it into the back of the net making the score 3-2 Mercyhurst. Minutes later, Derks would set up teammate Michael Blancato who one-touched the ball into the goal to put the Lakers ahead 4-2.
Millersville turned the pressure on, recording a pait of shots that were blocked by the Mercyhurst defense before
Devin Rediker whipped a header on frame that was saved by Martin Jarc. In the 72nd minute,
Nathan Delgado created space outside of the box and ripped a shot that went off of Jarc's hands and into the net to pull the Marauders to within one goal.
Millersville had opportunities in the 86th and 88th to even the score as
Kody Eberly forced Jarc to come up with a big save, but the Lakers would prevail 4-3.
Millersville finishes the regular season 10-5-2 going 5-4-2 in conference play. Millersville's season is still alive as Gannon defeated East Stroudsburg Saturday. The Marauders will travel to Gannon Tuesday to face the Golden Knights in a PSAC Quarterfinal matchup at 6 p.m.
