Millersville, Pennsylvania - Despite falling behind 1-0,
Devin Rediker scored his first goal of the season off a corner and Omzar Guzman converted a free kick in overtime to give Millersville a 2-1 win over Wheeling Jesuit Wednesday. The Marauders outshot the Cardinals 22-7 and
Darian McCauley played another strong game in net, totaling four saves in the victory.
The Marauders would have the first opportunity when
Ethan Woods fired one that was scooped up by Matthew McCormick. The Cardinals nearly got on the board in the 20th -minute when Teavon Spencer launched a throw into the box that was flicked on goal by Jordan Frommeyer but
Darian McCauley grabbed the ball.
In the 22nd,
Kody Eberly ripped a shot that was blocked out of bounds for a corner kick. In the 35th, Eberly played a direct ball from midfield that
Jacob Gosselin took into the box but McCormick pushed the ball wide. Neither team would convert a chance before the break.
Wheeling Jesuit would get on the board just minutes into the second half, working up the right side and placing a ball upper 90 that McCauley tipped away, but Frommeyer was waiting for the rebound and put the Cardinals up 1-0.
The Marauders began to press the action, earning a corner kick in the 66th minute. Eberly swung the ball in near post where
Omar Guzman laid out for a header that McCormick had to make a diving save and
Devin Rediker was there to finish on the rebound and tie the game 1-1.
With less than five minutes in regulation, Millersville would earn a free kick just outside of the 18 and Gosseling re-directed it buy McCormick made the save. The Cardinals pushed to break the tie, ringing a shot off the post and forcing McCauley to lay out for a save and the two sides ended regulation tied 1-1.
Minutes into the first overtime, the Marauders earned another free kick just outside the box and
Omar Guzman stepped up and drilled the ball into the lower right-hand corner to give the Marauders a 2-1 win.
With the win, Millersville improves to 10-3-2 (5-2-2 PSAC) and returns to conference play Saturday, traveling to Seton Hill to face the Griffins at 12 p.m.
