Shippensburg Pulls Away in the Second Half

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's basketball dropped its 12th-straight game and its eighth-straight conference contest Saturday against the visiting Shippensburg Raiders. The Raiders closed the first half on an 11-2 run seizing the momentum of the contest as they coasted to a 76-64 victory at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Millersville raced out of the gates converting consecutive layups, but Shippensburg found its answer via the long ball. Sophomore forward Jay Hardy's 3-pointer cut into the Marauder lead at the 18:54 mark.

However, Millersville continued its strong offensive play within the first half building a four point lead on two separate occasions with the first occurring after a pair of made free throws by Ricky Mosley at the 16:56 mark. The Raiders once again responded with a 3-pointer, this time from Antonio Kellem deadlocking the score at 14. Millersville would go on to trail for the majority of the first half before regaining the lead for the final time on a Ricky Mosley layup with just under three minutes remaining. The Raiders ripped off their 11-2 run giving them the 43-36 halftime lead.

Shippensburg built a 19-point, second-half lead before the Marauders closed the game on a 9-2 run. The Raiders held a 32-21 rebound advantage over Millersville and also had the better field goal percentage (45.5%) on 22-55 shooting from the floor. The Raiders had nine different players score and were led by Dustin Sleva who poured in a game-high 23 points.

Saturday's loss dropped the Marauders to 2-13 overall and 2-9 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Meanwhile Shippensburg is in prime position for the postseason tournament winning its fifth consecutive improving to 10-5 overall and 7-4 in conference action.

The Marauders were led on offence by Markeith Mont's 15 points as Ricky Mosley and Ryan Beck also finished in double figures with a 13 and 11 points apiece. Shawn Williams finished with eight points, which is the first time all season the senior guard failed to score 10 or more points.

Millersville returns to the Pucillo Gymnasium hardwood Wednesday against Bloomsburg. Tip is slated for 7:30 p.m.
