Millersville, Pa. - Playing its second game in 24 hours, Millersville field hockey received three goals from three players to beat visiting Lindenwood Sunday afternoon.
Just one day removed from the season-opening win over Pace, the Marauders improved to 2-0 behind goals from freshman
Aliza Mizak, sophomore
Katie DeLuca and junior
Olivia Hershey. The Marauders piled up 20 shots for the second consecutive game, put 16 of those shots on goal, and also generated 17 corners to Lindenwood's six.
Millersville struck twice in the first half. Mizak scored her first collegiate goal by intercepting a Lindenwood pass and using nifty stickwork to beat a defender and the goalkeeper. Her score put Millersville on the board at the 11:53 mark. DeLuca followed at 31:08, receiving a pass from
Margaret Thorwart and pushing the ball through a host of defenders.
Lindenwood drew within one six minutes into the second half when Chloe Bell scored her third goal of the season. Lindenwood had little opportunity to score an equalizer, though, as the Marauders drew five penalty corners and took eight shots before Lindenwood's next chance in the 59th minute.
Megan Donlan blocked a Nicole Johnston shot in front of keeper
Kylee Bair, and Millersville regained possession. Just over three minutes later, Hershey scored her first of the season by turning and lofting a shot over a diving Victoria Gil.
Millersville has outshot its two opponents 46-7 and totaled a 39-7 advantage in corners. Five different players have scored Millersville's six goals. Millersville has won seven consecutive games at home.
The Marauders head for Erie, Pa., to take on Mercyhurst on Sept. 9. Millersville needed overtime to win at Mercyhurst in 2014.
Shelly Behrens is 8-0 in her career against the Lakers.
