GAME OVERVIEW• Millersville has opened the season 7-0-1 marking the best start in program history. The Marauders have posted five shutouts and opponents have only scored a combined five goals so far this season. The Marauders strong start was rewarded with a No. 15 ranking in last week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Men's National Poll. The Marauders also jumped up to the No. 2 spot in the Atlantic Regional rankings after being placed No. 4 a week ago.
• For the season,
Jaime Vazquez has paced the Marauder offensive attack as he ranks first in the PSAC in points (22), goals (10) and game-winning goals (3). The 22 points ties a career-high mark for the Bernville, Pa., native as the Marauders surpassed the halfway point of the 2015 season.
• Goalkeeper
Kohl Orner has been extremely composed and reliable in net as he has played every minute of each of Millersville's first eight games. Orner has made 31 saves on year and his five shutouts are the top mark in the PSAC.
ABOUT THE SERIES• West Chester has had the Marauders number in recent years, recording victories in the past three years including shutouts in 2013 and 2014. The Golden Rams enter this seasons match the clear underdogs as Millersville is nationally ranked and WCU has yet to record a road win.
THE LAST MEETING (WEST CHESTER 2, MILLERSVILLE 0 - OCT. 18, 2014)• Like many PSAC games, the 2014 matchup between Millersville and WCU turned out to be a physical affair. Both teams racked up a combined four yellow cards. Tommy Ryan scored both of the Golden Ram goals as West Chester took 14 shots compared to the seven fired off by the Black & Gold. The Marauders had opportunities, the best occurring late in the second half when
Jaime Vazquez attempted a free kick from just outside the box. The midfielder chipped the ball brilliantly, but it sailed just inches high of the crossbar.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• After starting the season 1-3, West Chester has won two of the last four games, while tying two other matches against New York Institute of Technology and Philadelphia University. The Golden Rams are paced offensively by Brian Schaefer and Max Adarkwah as each has scored two goals and added an assist on the season. In its latest match, the Golden Rams combined for three goals from three different players squeaking past Shippensburg, 3-2. Shippensburg out-shot WCU 13-12, but it was not enough as West Chester converted three of their four total shots on goal into points. Goalkeeper Matt Palmer played all 90 minutes, recording six saves in the victory.
PSAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK• For the second time of the 2015 season, Millersville men's soccer senior
Jaime Vazquez was honored as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Player of the Week. The Tulpehocken product scored five goals in two games as Millersville improved to 7-0-1. Vazquez scored a hat trick in an incredible comeback against Pitt-Johnstown. The Marauders trailed 2-0 with 10 minutes to play, and Vazquez scored three goals in less than eight minutes. Vazquez then scored the game-winner and netted another goalazo in a 5-0 shutout of Gannon on Saturday.
