Golden Eagles Victorious Over the Marauders

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's soccer team played toe-to-toe with the Clarion Golden Eagles in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match, but a second half comeback attempt came up just short as the Marauders fell 2-1 to Clarion.
Millersville (2-4, 2-4 PSAC) came out of the gates sluggish as the Golden Eagles tallied the first goal of the match in the 31st minute. Midfielder Stephanie Lias caught Ville keeper Samantha Wolfe somewhat out of position and ripped a shot into the back of the net. The score remained 1-0 into the halftime break.
Clarion (2-3-1, 2-3-1 PSAC) added the eventual game winner five minutes into the second period when Mckenzie Sheesly fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net past a sprawled out Samantha Wolfe. Both Golden Eagle goals were unassisted.
Momentum slowly swayed into Millersville's favor as it began to generate more shots on the goal frame. The constant peppering of the net finally paid off in the 58th minute as a beautiful combination play between Meagan Newmister and Victoria Kramer led to a Black & Gold goal. Kramer finished the game with a team-high three shots, two of which were on target.
The Marauders were unable to connect on another score before time expired and saw their attempts at defeating a conference opponent fade away.
Millersville kept up with the Golden Eagles, placing the same amount of shots on target and actually fired two more shots in the match (13-11). Goalkeeper Samantha Wolfe tallied four saves in the 2-1 loss.
Millersville travels to Pitt-Johnstown (0-5, 0-5 PSAC) for its next match on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
