Millersville, Pa. -Â The Millersville softball team needed to win both games against Lock Haven on the final day of the regular season to have any hope of making the PSAC Tournament. However, the two teams split the doubleheader with the Bald Eagles taking game one 8-3 and the Marauders winning the day's rematch, 3-2.
Millersville's 2015 campaign ends with an overall record of 21-24, which includes an 11-17 mark within the PSAC East. Lock Haven also misses out on the postseason as it finishes the spring with a record of 15-27, 11-17 in the division.Â
Just like game one on Friday at Bloomsburg, all of the Marauders' runs came by way of the home run on Saturday in game one against the Bald Eagles. A day after setting the program's all-time record for home runs in a career,
Jordan Sheffield crushed a solo shot down the left field line to increase her career total to 14. One inning later, freshman
Kelsey Campbell got in on the action with a two-run dinger to left center that brought in
Heather Lutz.
As far as season totals, that was team-leading number seven for Sheffield and three for Campbell. Those two roundtrippers tied the score at 3-3 but the home team put up a five spot in the sixth to win by the five-run margin.
Cassidy Pinchorski (9-14) gave up at least five runs for a third-straight start for the first time all season as she exited after five and two thirds innings. The freshman gave up six earned runs on five hits while walking six batters and striking out seven. In relief,
Stephanie Kulp gave up two earned runs through the final third of an inning.
Heather Lutz and Campbell led the way offensively as they tallied two hits apiece.
The visitors were the first to score in game two as they put up a two spot in the top of the first.
Maria Spinosa singled home Sheffield and later scored on a
Brittany Smith base knock to center.
After the hosts put up a run in both the second and fifth innings to tie up at 2-2, Millersville scored the third and go-ahead run in the top of the sixth. B. Smith started the rally with a single to left, moved to second on Lutz's single and came around to score after Campbell hit her in.
Brianna Andraos (12-10) was in command as she tossed the complete game with two earned runs given up seven hits to go with only one free pass and four punchouts. Offensively, B. Smith was the lone Marauder with multiple hits as she was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
