Clermont, Fla. -Â The Millersville softball team completed its nine-day, 15-game trip to Clermont, Florida on Friday night with a split that included a 3-2 loss to Charleston and a 2-1 defeat of PSAC West foe, Slippery Rock.
The Marauders now sit at 8-7 overall with PSAC East play on the horizon while the Golden Eagles improved to 11-2, which includes three straight wins and The Rock dropped to 3-7 on the young season. A box score for the Charleston game was not readily available.
In a second game that saw a combined nine errors between Millersville and Slippery Rock, junior hurler
Brianna Andraos led the Marauders with what she did in the circle. Andraos improved to 4-3 after throwing seven innings and gave up one unearned run on six hits while walking two and setting down six batters with the punchout.
The Marauders were the first to score and did so in the bottom of the second.
Heather Lutz earned a free pass to first with one out before a
Maria Spinosa single put runners on the corners. During the play though, Slippery Rock's left fielder committed an error which allowed Lutz to score and Spinosa to move all the way to third.
The next half inning, The Rock tied things up at 1-1 when Taylor Welch reached on an error by
Jordan Sheffield and that brought in Eliza Sykes. In the bottom of the third though,
Brittany Smith reached on an error by Slippery Rock's shortstop, moved to second during the play and then touched home thanks to a
Gabbie Berry single. From that point on, The Rock did strand seven baserunners put couldn't crack the code on Andraos.
