Clermont, Fla. - The Millersville softball team's bats were silent on Tuesday as the Marauders were held scoreless in a 10-0 loss to No. 15 Winona State in five innings and a 2-0 defeat to the hands of Truman State.
Millersville fell to 5-6 on the young season while the Warriors (13-2), who recently moved up to No. 15 (one spot) in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, had won six in a row until an (8-5) loss to Maryville after playing the Marauders. The Bulldogs (8-4) pushed their win streak to four thanks to an outstanding performance from Kindra Henze in the circle.
In game one, Winona State scored 10 runs on 10 hits to just two hits for Millersville.
Brianna Andraos (2-3) got the start against the nationally ranked opponent and gave up 10 runs, nine earned, with six walks in four innings of work.
Stephanie Kulp came on in relief and pitched a perfect top of the fifth. The Warriors' Morgan Lintz (1-0) pitched a two-hit shutout with two strikeouts and no walks.
For the night's second game, Truman State only needed two runs on five hits as the Marauders struggled at the plate. The Bulldogs scored their runs on an RBI triple in the second and a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Cassidy Pinchorski (3-3) turned in another solid outing with six innings pitched with two earned runs given up while striking out four and only walking one. On the other side, Kindra Henze struck out 14 in the complete-game shutout with just two hits allowed.
For the two games combined,
Danielle DiFilippo and
Maria Spinosa each had two hits apiece with Spinosa's both coming against Truman State.
Wednesday, Millersville rounds out its stay in Florida with Mercy (9 a.m.) and a rematch from earlier in the trip, Lees-McRae (11 a.m.). Live stats for the second game will be available
