Winston-Salem State, N.C. - Winston-Salem State scored seven runs in the first four innings and held off a Millersville charge for a 7-5 win in game two of the series Saturday afternoon.
The Rams (3-1) tagged Marauder starter
Jim McDade for seven runs on nine hits in four innings. This came after
Dan Stoltzfus' two-run homer gave the Marauders a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Relief pitcher
Dylan Boisclair was outstanding in relief, allowing just two hits over four innings, striking out three. The Marauder offense chipped away with three runs in the fifth. Stoltzfus collected his third RBI of the game and
Luke Emling drove in two with a single.
Millersville brought the tying run to the plate in each of the four innings but failed to score. The Marauders missed a golden opportunity in the seventh with
Chas McCormick led off with a single and
Jeremy Musser. Musser was picked off of first, and Winston-Salem State's Devin McLemore escaped without any damage .McLemore earned the save after pitching 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out five. Starter Aaron Hatch (1-0) earned the win. He gave up four earned runs on eight hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.
Along with Stoltzfus,
David Summerfield and
Mitch Stoltzfus each had two hits for the Marauders.
Millersville looks for the series win in game three Sunday afternoon.
