Millersville, Pa. - The lone senior on the Millersville men's basketball roster starred on Senior Day.
Jalen Lester scored a career-high 19 points in leading the Marauders to a 73-60 victory over Bloomsburg. The win locked up PSAC Tournament first round home game for the Marauders.
Lester hit 5-of-6 3-pointers and 7-of-8 shots from the field, set a career-high with five rebounds and handed out a career-high four assists. He hit half of Millersville's 10 3-pointers. He was joined in double figures by
Eddie Callender, who recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Sam Light scored 14 points, hitting 3-of-5 3-pointers and
Tavon Parker scored 10. Millersville has now won 14 consecutive games in Pucillo against Bloomsburg--a streak dating back to 2002.
The Marauders' defense swarmed against Bloomsburg, forcing the Huskies to shoot 33 percent from the field and just 4-of-16 from 3-point land. The Huskies were the 14th Millersville opponent held under 30 percent shooting from three. Millersville improved to 12-2 in those games and 14-1 when it holds teams under 42 percent shooting from the field.
Millersville led 33-25 at the half but more than half of Bloomsburg's points (13) were scored from the free throw line. The second half belonged to Lester. He opened the session with two 3-pointers in the first two minutes, sparking him to 17 second-half points. His shooting helped the Marauders start the period on a 13-5 run. Lester's lay-up at the 12:24 mark and Light's 3-pointer on the next possession were part of a 15-3 run that put the Marauders in front by 23 points with 8:32 to play. Millersville coasted home from there, but Lester added another 3-pointer for good measure.
The Marauders, now 15-13 overall, finished PSAC play with an 11-11 record, and will play its first postseason game against an opponent that is to be determined on Saturday, Feb. 28. It will be just the fourth PSAC Tournament game played in Pucillo Gymnasium since the Marauders hosted and won the tournament in 1993.
