Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's basketball team made things interesting late cutting the deficit to five points with 39 seconds left, but the California (Pa.) Vulcans closed on a 4-0 run and were helped out by a pair of Black & Gold turnovers as the homestanding Marauders fell by a 88-79 decision.
Millersville (2-7, 2-4 PSAC) has lost six-straight games and it's the first time since the 2011-12 season the Marauders have lost that many consecutive games. Millersville finished the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 9-17 and were 7-15 in the PSAC.
California (4-5, 3-3 PSAC) opened the scoring with a trey from Avery Allmond, but the Marauders immediately responded with a 3-pointer of their own via
Ricky Mosley. The Vulcans went on an 11-2 run building a 10-point lead that was capped off by a pair of free throws from Nate Bellhy. Over the next six-plus minutes, the Marauders played sound defense that led to even better offense and took their first lead of the game after a
Demerik Weglinski layup with 7:13 remaining in the half. The lead was short lived as the Vulcans carried a 35-26 lead into the halftime break.
The Vulcans were scorching hot from the field in the second half shooting 50 percent from the floor, California finished the game 26-of-45 (57%) from the field. Luka Andjusic poured in a season-high 29 points for the Vulcans and every time the Marauders made a run in the second stanza the guard answered with a basket of his own. Teammates Khalil Jabbie and Richard Smith also finished in double figures, both tallied 15 points.
The Marauders were led by
Ricky Mosley who scored 25 points for the second-straight game. Mosley was lethal from 3-point range shooting 7-of-12 from downtown. Leading scorer
Shawn Williams added 22 points and Millersville received 23 points from its bench, eight of which came from
Markeith Mont.
Millersville has yet to record a win at Pucillo Gymnasium this season and do not play at home again until Jan. 3. The Marauders return to action Dec. 12 when it travels to Cheyney for an 8 p.m. tip.
