Men’s Basketball Falls to Bowie State in Non-Conference Affair

Bowie, Md. – After a 12-day layoff, the Millersville men's basketball team closed out 2015 with a 95-62 non-conference road loss to Bowie State on Thursday afternoon. The Marauders stumbled through the month of December going 0-6 and are currently in the midst of a nine-game losing streak.

Junior forward Markeith Mont made his first career start and responded with a game-high 27 points. Mont was highly effective from the floor shooting 10-of-17 and also converted a career-high seven free throws. The World Communications product has scored 20-plus points in two straight games.

Bowie State improved to 7-4 on the year and led by 11 points in the opening minutes of the game after Tommy Patterson knocked down a trey to open the scoring. The Bulldogs closed the first half on an 11-0 run as they carried a 52-31 lead into the half time break.

The Millersville (2-10, 2-6 PSAC) offense didn't improve much in the second half. The Marauders shot 6-of-15 from the field (40.0 percent) in the final 20 minutes of play including 2-of-6 (33.3 percent) from 3-point range. Tommy Patterson chipped in 12 points and collected seven rebounds. Jon Lott and Jerrin Ball both matched career-highs pouring in nine points each.

The Bulldogs were paced by Justin Beck who scored a team-high 25 points and fellow senior Julian Livingston added 17 points.

Millersville will look to right the ship in the new year with a PSAC West matchup on Sunday as it hosts Pitt-Johnstown. Tip is slated for 3 p.m.
