Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's soccer team downed the visiting Lock Haven Bald Eagles 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Pucillo Field. The No. 9 ranked Marauders improved to 10-0-1 overall and 7-0 in the PSAC, while Lock Haven dropped to 5-5-1 overall and 4-2 in conference action.
In what was by far the most physical match of the season that saw seven combined yellow cards shown, Millersville scored a goal in each half which proved to be the difference. The Black & Gold opened the scoring in the 25th minute on a goal scored by
Jaime Vazquez. The goal was set up by a flick pass by
Devin Rediker that was slotted into the bottom right corner of the net by Vazquez.
With his 13th goal of the season, Vazquez is once again tied for the top goal scorer in all of Division II. Dating back to last season, the Marauders are 15-0-1 when
Jaime Vazquez scores a goal.
The Marauders carried their 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Millersville out-shot the Bald Eagles by a 9-8 margin and forced the visiting goalkeeper Troy Teresak into making three first half saves.
The second half proved to be the most physical as both teams battled back and forth with neither team being able to spark quality offensive chances. But in the 74th minute, Millersville scored the insurance effort that put the match on ice. At the 74:23 mark,
Devin Rediker made a run from his defensive positioning up the left wing and was fed the ball by
Justin Torres-Groover as Rediker slotted the ball past the LHU keeper for his second colligate goal. The junior defender finished with a game-high three points.
Kohl Orner earned the victory in goal for MU as he recorded his fourth-straight shutout and eighth of the 2015 season. Orner recorded two saves in the Marauder victory.
Millersville returns to action Saturday, Oct. 10 when it hosts PSAC foe California (Pa.) on Alumni Day. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
