GAME OVERVIEW• Millersville posted its third-straight shutout in its most recent match against Goldey-Beacom. The Black & Gold looked extremely dominant against the Lightning shutting out the visitors, 2-0. Millersville controlled the possession and flow of the match and out-shot Goldey-Beacom by a 21-9 margin. Ville goals were scored by
Jaime Vazquez and
Christopher Sosa. The unbeaten streak to begin the year also marks the best start in program history.
• The 2015 edition of coach
Steve Widdowson's squad are extremely balanced as its goals against average of .49 ranks the Marauders eighth in Division II. Millersville has scored 24 goals through the first 10 games of the season as its scoring average of 2.40 goals per game ranks them first in the PSAC.
• For the season,
Jaime Vazquez has paced the Marauder offensive attack as he ranks first in the PSAC in points (26), goals (12) and game-winning goals (4). The 26 points marks a career-high for the Bernville, Pa., native and his 12 goals scored ranks him second in all of Division II.
• Nine different Marauders have netted a goal on the season, including five freshmen (
Jaxson Burns,
Chase Flickinger,
Dylan Fogerty,
Kyle Finsterbush and
Danny Kline). Burns, Flickinger,
Marcus Frangakis and
Ben Johnston have each netted two goals on the year, which ties for second best on the team.
• Goalkeeper and captain
Kohl Orner has been extremely composed and reliable in net as he has played every minute of each of Millersville's first 10 games. Orner has been the leader of the backline of defense that consists of the likes of a combination of usual starters
Devin Rediker,
Tanner Brenize,
Kyle Finsterbush,
Drew McMenamin and
Ahmed Qaisi. Orner has made 40 saves on the year and his seven shutouts is the top mark in the PSAC. Millersville has only given up a combined five goals with the next closest PSAC school (Lock Haven) giving up 13 goals.
THE LAST MEETING (MILLERSVILLE 2, LOCK HAVEN 1 - OCT. 25, 2014)• Last season, the Marauders received goals from
Jordan Brubaker and
Ben Johnston enroute to a 2-1 victory over Lock Haven. The Black & Gold controlled the pace of the contest and it turned out to be the most physical affair of the 2014 season. Â The Marauders and Bald Eagles combined to commit a total of 27 fouls including six yellow card cautions. Millersville opened the scoring in the 19th minute when
Jesse Zimmerman whipped in a cross from left-to-right that was headed into the back of the by Brubaker. Lock Haven tied the contest just minutes later when Tyler Sablyak beat Ville keeper
Kohl Orner in a one-on-one situation.
Ben Johnston scored the game-winner in the 49th minute when he fired a laser into the lower left corner of the net.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• The Bald Eagles are led offensively by Troy Amspacher and Zach Hommey who have scored five goals and three goals, respectively. Amspacher was the difference maker for Lock Haven in their contest against Seton Hill as he converted a penalty shot in the 79th minute giving the Bald Eagles a 1-0 victory. The goal was Amspacher's fifth of the season and fourth penalty kick conversion as he calmly tucked the penalty shot home in a crucial game-changing moment. Haven goalkeeper Troy Tersak made five saves in goal on his way to preserving his second clean sheet of 2015.
MARAUDERS NATIONALLY RANKED • The Millersville men's soccer team continued its upward rise in the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA) Division II Poll on Monday, moving up to the No. 9 spot in the fifth poll of the 2015 season. Millersville remained in the No. 2 slot in the Atlantic Regional rankings. A complete listing of the national poll can be found
