Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's soccer team was unable to net a goal as the Mercyhurst Lakers shutout the Black & Gold, 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Prior to kickoff, the Marauders honored their four seniors:
Emily Purcell,
Victoria Kramer,
Kristin Lepley and
Megan Kelley.
With the loss the Marauders conclude their season at 5-12 overall and 4-12 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Millersville finishes the season 14th in the PSAC.
Mercyhurst tallied its first goal in the 40th minute when Rebekah Craig fired a shot from just over 18-yards out that found the upper left corner of the net. Craig was assisted by senior Kristina Roberti. The Lakers carried the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Millersville nearly equalized in the 46th minute when
Halie Parker blasted a shot that was initially saved by Kristen Kosh, but the rebound squirted the foot of
Alexandrea Powell who fired her shot attempt a couple feet wide of the net.
The Lakers added an insurance effort in the 54th minute when Lauren Testa caught goalkeeper
Samantha Wolfe out of position and slid the ball into the right side of the net. Wolfe finished the match with four saves.
Junior
Elizabeth Waite entered the match as a substitute in the 58th minute and nearly put the Marauders on the board seconds after stepping foot on the pitch. Waite fired a laser from 25-yards out that dipped into the waiting arms of Laker keeper Kristen Kosh.
Mercyhust outshot the Marauders by a 22-16 margin, but Millersville placed three more of its shots target compared to the Lakers (9-6). Mercyhurst held the slight advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.
