10/31/2015 3:06:00 PM | Field Hockey
Millersville, Pa. - The No. 1 Millersville field hockey team prepped itself for the upcoming PSAC Tournament by rolling to a 4-0 Senior Day win Saturday over Mansfield. The Marauders capped their regular season with a 17-1 record.
Millersville recorded a season-high 38 shots and 32 penalty corners while Mansfield was held without a shot or corner. Arianna Grays scored two second half goals. Katie DeLuca scored the game winner in the first half, and Aliza Mizak scored her team-high 10th of the season. All four goals were assisted.
Millersville has now scored four goals in three consecutive games. Saturday's win was the 12th shutout and the eighth time that Millersville has held its opponent without a shot on goal. Millersville has outscored its opponents 41-7 on the season and owns a nation-best 0.39 goals against average.
DeLuca scored her second of the season 16:26 into the game to put Millersville on the board. She redirected a shot from Mizak from the left side of the goal. Just over three minutes later, Mizak scored when she pushed a long pass from Robyn Spatichia low past the keeper.
Grays scored back-to-back goals in the 64th and 66th minutes. Freshman Jesica Lapp assisted on the first and Olivia Hershey helped on the second.
Millersville recognized its four seniors prior to the game: Lauren Gerhart, Megan Donlan, Kayla Bixler and Abby Spanos. The class, with a 70-14 record, has more wins than any four-year class in Millersville history.
The Marauders finished 9-1 in the PSAC, tying East Stroudsburg for first place. East Stroudsburg earned the right to host the PSAC Semifinals by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker. The Marauders will play opposite of ESU in the PSAC Tournament bracket and will play Friday, Nov. 6. Game time and opponent will be announced at a later date.
