Caldwell, N.J. – In its final non-conference match of the season, the Millersville men's soccer team rolled to a 2-1 road win at Caldwell on Monday. The Marauders boosted their record to 13-2-1 overall and finished the season with a 3-1-1 non-conference mark.
For the third consecutive match, Millersville allowed its opponent to score first, but similarly to Saturday's win over Seton Hill the Marauders responded with two-unanswered goals.
The Cougars opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Jakub Havlak fired his shot attempt into the back of the net from 15-yards out for his third goal of the season. Teammate Sjoerd Blankenstein was credited with the assist.
The Marauder response came just under 12 minutes later when
Jaxson Burns raced up the field on a breakaway opportunity and immediately laid the ball off to forward
Jaime Vazquez who blasted the ball past keeper Michael Hartmann. Vazquez has netted a goal in 13 of the team's 16 games and leads the PSAC with 17 goals and 38 points. The Bernville Pa., natives 17 goals ranks him 4th in Division II.
Millersville received the go-ahead goal in the 35th minute to go up 2-1.
Jaime Vazquez whipped a cross in front of the net that found
Jaxson Burns for his fourth goal of the season. Vazquez and Burns finished with a match-high three points.
Caldwell held the edge in shots in both halves and overall at 16-11 and led in corner kicks 11-4, but solid fundamental defense had the home team frustrated throughout as they were unable to find the equalizer.
Senior Goalkeeper
Kohl Orner was superb in net recording two saves in the game.
No. 14 Millersville wraps up its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31 against Mercyhurst. The matchup pits the top-two schools in the PSAC against each other as the Lakers currently rank second with a conference record of 7-1-1. The Ville also will recognize the team's three seniors during a pregame ceremony. Kickoff from Pucillo Field is slated for 3:30 p.m.
