Millersville, Pa. - No. 1 Millersville field hockey's offense kept rolling in a 4-0 road with at Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday. The Marauders boosted their record to 16-1 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC with the win, tying a program record for most regular season wins.
Millersville totaled just three goals in a four-game stretch from Oct. 7-17 but has since scored eight times in the last two games.
Kayla Bixler found the back of the cage twice, scoring her first two goals of the season.
Kathleen Bishop scored her fifth of the season, and freshman
Haley Weaver tacked on a goal late in the second half.
As has become a custom, Millersville racked up shots (12) and penalty corners (17) while shutting down its opponent. The Crimson Hawks managed just one shot off of four penalty corners.
Samantha Rumler made the save on that lone shot, giving her nine shutouts on the season. Millersville has recorded double-digit shots in 14 of 17 games and has held its foes to no more than seven shots in any game. Six times, Millersville has limited a team to two or fewer shots.
Bixler started the scoring at the 9:18 mark, blasting in a shot off of a
Lauren Gerhart penalty corner. Bishop deflected in a shot at the 25:17 mark, giving Millersville a 2-0 lead. Bixler's second goal came in the closing minute of the first half.
Courtney Weaver notched her fifth assist of the season on the play.
The Marauders' fourth and final tally of the game came with just 1:59 remaining. Weaver collected a rebound off of a save and deposited the ball for her first career goal.
Millersville wraps its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31 against Mansfield. The team's four seniors will be recognized during a pregame ceremony.
