Bloomsburg, Pa. - Millersville field hockey completely overhwelmed the Bloomsburg Huskies on Saturday, blanking the home team in penalty corners, shots and in the scoring column. The Marauders rode
Olivia Hershey's second half goal to a 1-0 victory.
Millersville (14-1, 6-1 PSAC) totaled 15 shots, 12 shots on goal and 13 penalty corners while the Huskies were held to zero in every offensive statistical category.
Samantha Rumler picked up her eighth shutout despite not needing to make a save. It was the Marauders' 10th shutout in the last 11 games and the seventh time this season they have held a team without a shot on goal.
The Marauders found the breakthough goal on their first shot of the second half. Just 3:53 into the period,
Margaret Thorwart found Hershey, who blasted a shot past Lindsay Cassel for her fifth score of the season. Thorwart picked up her team-high fifth assist. Hershey and Thorwart both totaled four shots on goal in the game.
Millersville has now won six in a row over Bloomsburg after going 0-31-2 against the Huskies from 1990-2012.
The win helped Millersville keep pace with Kutztown in the PSAC standings. The Marauders can clinch their fourth consecutive playoff berth with a win over Kutztown on Oct. 21.
