Millersville, Pa. - Ian Shannon picked up his 20th win over the season but Millersville fell to Wheeling Jesuit by a 33-9 score on Thursday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium.
Wheeling Jesuit (8-2) won three bouts by first round pins. Millersville's (5-3) points came from 149-pound Nico Demetrio , Shannon at 165 and 285-pound David Wuestner. Shannon boosted his season record to 20-8, becoming the first Marauder since Shane Smith in 2011 to post 20 wins in a season. Wuestner's win came over the No. 6-ranked wrestler in Super Region 1, Corey Siegfried.
The Marauders' first points came when Demetrio came from behind to beat Skyer Terrell, 10-9. In the first period, after being taken down, Demetrio quickly spun on Terrell and nearly landed a pin. His reversal tied the match at 4-4, but Terrell built his lead back up to 8-5 by the end of the second period. With only 34 seconds left in the match and trailing 8-6, Demetrio scored a brilliant takedown and then picked up two nearfall points to take the lead for good.
Shannon's win came by a 2-0 decision against Reyse Wallbrown. Shannon scored an escape to start the third and built up enough nearly two minutes of riding time.
Wuestner's battled with Siegfried needed extra time to be decided. The score was knotted 1-1 after three full periods. Following a flurry of action in the waning seconds of the sudden victory round, Wuestner managed to catch Siegfried by the legs and take the top position with only three seconds left. Wuestner improved his record to 13-8.
