Millersville, Pa. - No. 1-ranked Millersville field hockey received nine goals from nine different players in a 9-0 shutout of Newberry Sunday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville (4-0) registered its third shutout in four games and has now out-scored its opponents by a 22-1 margin. Millersville piled up 39 shots including 27 on goal while Newberry managed four shots and two on goal.
Lauren Sotzin played the first half and stopped one shot.
Samantha Rumler played the second half. One shot was stopped by defender
Kayla Bixler.
Sixteen different Marauders recorded shots in the game. Senior
Rachel Dickinson scored her first goal of the season and also added three assists.
Katelyn Zapp's goal on a Dickinson assist in the 40th minute was her team-leading seventh of the season and sixth of the week.
Lauren Gerhart started the scoring on an assist from
Hannah Whitman just 1:54 into the game.
Arianna Grays beat the keeper unassisted at the 13 minute mark--her second in as many days. 7:27 later,
Olivia Hershey scored her first goal of the season on a Dickinson assist.
Champayne Hess and
Kayla Bixler scored back-to-back within one minute of game action to close the half with a 5-0 lead.
Zapp started the second half scoring, and in the 42nd minute,
Taylor Parker scored the first goal of her career. Freshman
Erin Jury then found senior
Alicia Youtz for her third goal of the season in the 51st minute. Dickinson capped the scoring on a rocket off of a penalty corner.
Millersville has now won 12 consectuive games at home. The Marauders return to PSAC action at Bloomsburg on Sept. 17 and return home to face West Chester on Sept. 23.
