Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville softball team was shutout by Shippensburg in game one, 3-0 but the Marauders avenged that loss with a 2-1 victory over their visitors in the day's rematch.
Millersville (23-23, 11-15 PSAC East) was no-hit by Emily Estep in game one but with the way
Amanda Wink was pitching in game two, the Marauders's two hits were just enough to defeat the Raiders (28-12, 14-10 PSAC East) in game two.
GAME ONE RECAPShippensburg scored one run each in the second, third and fifth innings. In the circle, Estep (18-1) and
Brianna Andraos (14-12) dueled for seven innings but the Ship hurler was better on Friday afternoon with no hits allowed, 11 strikeouts, no walks, and one hit batsman. Estep came in with the lowest ERA in the conference and her performance lowered that mark to 0.91.
Andraos gave up three runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits with one free pass. In the process, the right-handed sophomore set the program record for complete games in a season with her 22nd of 2014.
GAME TWO RECAPIn the bottom of the second,
Heather Lutz led off the frame with a single and moved to second thanks to a sacrifice bunt from
Maria Spinosa. One out later,
Ashley Cantiello reached on an error by the third baseman that allowed Lutz to come in and give Millersville the 1-0 lead.
It wasn't until the sixth inning when another run was scored by either team and Shippensburg did so with a solo home run to left field that tied things up at 1-1.
In the bottom of the sixth with two outs,
Gabbie Berry popped a ball up on the infield, it hit the second baseman's glove and she dropped it allowing the junior catcher to reach. After Berry advanced to second on a wild pitch, Lutz came through with an RBI double that put the Marauders up 2-1 for good. With that two-bagger, Lutz set the single-season record for doubles in a season with 17 and that number is also tied for first in the PSAC.
Since her record was 2-8,
Amanda Wink (6-9) has won four of her last five starts and lowered her ERA to 3.25 when it was up over five earlier in the season. The sophomore hurler went seven innings and gave up one earned run on six hits with five punchouts and two walks.
Lutz had both of Millersville's hits (2-for-2) with a run scored, an RBI and a walk. The Raiders stranded six baserunners in game two compared to three by the home team.
The Marauders will round out their regular season on Saturday with a twinbill at Mansfield beginning at 1 p.m.
