Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville men's soccer team traveled to Bloomsburg to battle the No. 25 ranked Huskies. Bloomsburg was able to score a 2-0 victory over the Marauders Wednesday evening.
The Huskies cracked the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II Top 25 for the first time since 2002. The victory over Millersville improved their record to 9-4-2 overall and 7-2-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Marauders fell to 4-10-1 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC.
Bloomsburg held a 13-6 advantage in shots, but 10 of the Husky attempts were off target in non-threatening areas. Millersville totaled six shots with four on target and they also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks but were unable to convert on any of its opportunities.
The No. 25 ranked team in the nation had the first real scoring opportunity in the 13th minute of action. Bloomsburg midfielder Brett Milden whipped a corner kick attempt inside the Marauder penalty box that found the head of teammate Roma Loboda who was stymied by keeper
Kohl Orner.
The Huskies were finally able to convert at the 43:01 mark when midfielder Josh Smith scored his second goal of the season. The goal was a nice combination play between Smith and teammate James Kiama who recorded the assist on the goal.
An insurance effort was scored by the Bloomsburg in the 59th minute. Midfielder Nate Conrad chipped a pass up field to forward Anthony Cerda who fired a shot into the back of the net.
The Marauders were nearly able to get on the board late in the second half when
Jaime Vazquez crossed the ball to teammate
Austin Swoyer. The freshman defender fired a shot that forced Husky keeper Jared Ott to make a diving save with full extension.
Millersville returns back to Pucillo Field this Saturday, when it hosts Lock Haven on Senior Day. The Marauders will surely be looking to send off its illustrious group of seniors in style with a victory over the Bald Eagles. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
