Weekend Overview
  • The Millersville men's soccer team is looking to snag a pair of victories this weekend when it squares off against Gannon and Mercyhurst. The Marauders (2-6-1) most recently suffered a crushing defeat against the Holy Family Tigers in a non-conference affair. Holy Family struck first early into the opening period giving the Tigers the 1-0 lead. In the 34th minute, Millersville equalized when midfielder Christopher Sosa dribbled past a Tiger defender allowing a clear shot attempt on net which he converted. But the game didn't stay tied for long as an inopportune turnover five minutes later led to an easy goal for Holy Family. The Tigers scored an insurance goal late in the second half cementing its 3-1 victory.

  • Gannon travels to Millersville sporting a 2-5 overall record. Most recently, the Golden Knights were shutout 0-2 in a non-conference loss to Cedarville.

  • Mercyhurst will square off against the Marauders Saturday and they are currently the ranked 13th in the NSCAA Coaches poll. The Lakers own a 7-2 overall record and are 1-1 in the PSAC.

Series History
  • Millersville and Gannon first met in 2009 which resulted in a 3-2 win for the Marauders. The Black & Gold also triumphed in last season's match winning via golden goal 2-1 in double overtime.

  • Mercyhurst first met with Millersville in 1992 when the Lakers were still members of the GLIAC conference. The Marauders ended up losing 3-1 to Mercyhurst.

The Last Meeting With the Lakers
  • The Marauders 2013 season was ended at the hands of the Lakers in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship game. Mercyhurst jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second half and held off a late Marauder charge to defeat Millersville 3-1.

Sosa Continues to Impress
  • Sophomore Christopher Sosa has now scored in two straight contests with both coming as game-tying efforts. Prior to Sosa converting, he actually suffered a bit of bad luck as he pounded both the post and cross bar on multiple occasions in prior matches before finally having the ball reach the back of the net Sept. 27.

Scouting the Golden Knights
  • Most recently, Gannon was shutout 0-2 in a non-conference loss to Cedarville. Senior forward Robbie Bennett currently leads the team in points (7) and goals (3). For his career, he ranks second among Gannon players since 2002 in game-winning goals (10).

Scouting Mercyhurst
  • The Lakers enter this weekend sporting a three-game winning streak and have a very potent offensive attack. They are led by reigning PSAC Player of the Year Fernando Martinez who led the team in points (44), goals (14) and assists (16). He is joined by Jack Watson at forward who currently leads the PSAC in goals with 11.
