
Marauders Reach New Heights at PSAC Championships

Mechanicsburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's swimming team accomplished a feat that no other team at Millersville had done before. The Marauders scored the most points in team history at the PSAC Championships with 148 and finished 10th overall at the 38th annual conference meet.
The previous school record was 121 set by the 2006 squad. Millersville have now scored more than 100 points five times since 2005.
After finishing 11th at the past two conference championships, Millersville received their best finish at the meet since 2008. The Marauders entered the final day trailing Lock Haven by three points for the 10th spot. Millersville scored 13 more points than the Bald Eagles on the last day and finished 10th for the third time in the past seven seasons.
The Marauders received their best finish of the day in the 100-yard freestyle as a new school record was set. Senior Sarah Bernhardt broke her own record in the event with a fourth-place finish. The Vineland graduate touched the wall in a time of 52.19 and notched an NCAA "B" cut time. Bernhardt previously set the record two years ago when she recorded a time of 52.26.
The second program record to fall on the day was in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Marauder foursome of Bernhardt, Rebecca Anderson, Grace Magerr, and Amanda Thomas shattered the school record with a time of 3:34.26. Prior to this season the previous record in the 400-yard freestyle relay was 3:38.88. In November, Bernhardt, Thomas, Magerr, and Brigid Kavanaugh recorded a school best finish of 3:36.48. The team completed the event in the ninth spot and tallied 18 points for the Marauders in the meet.
The final Marauder to grab points for Millersville was sophomore Brigid Mary McDonnell. The Atlanta, Ga. native placed 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.34. McDonnell, the current school record holder in the event, received three points for the Marauders.
West Chester took first place in the conference championships for the seventh-straight year, ending the meet with an even 800 points.
Bernhardt, one of two seniors on this years team, recorded NCAA "B" cut times in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly throughout the season. She now awaits to see if her times will qualify her for the NCAA Championships which will occur March 6-9.
