
Dukes Makes History with Fourth-Straight Daktronics All-Region Honor

2013 Daktronics All-Atlantic Region Team I All-Atlantic Region History
Millersville, Pa. - Daktronics released its 2013 All-Atlantic Region teams on Monday and Millersville men's soccer senior Andrew Dukes became the first player in program history, and just second player ever in region history, to be named to the All-Atlantic Region team in four straight seasons.
Dukes was named to the All-Atlantic Region Second Team for the third straight year after being placed on the First Team as a freshman. Dukes joined Slippery Rock's Patrick Connely as the only two players to ever be named to an All-Atlantic Region team in four straight seasons. Sophomore Jaime Vazquez represented the Marauders on the first team after scoring nine goals and totaling 22 points in his second year at Millersville. Dukes was joined on the second team by defender Anthony Fratini and goalkeeper Brad Benzing.
Millersville has now had four or more players named all-region team in two of the past three years. The Marauders finished the year with a 13-6-2 record and a runner-up finish in the NCAA Atlantic Region. Head coach Steve Widdowson has had 25 players earn all-region status in just seven years of coaching at Millersville.
Dukes, a senior captain, is the only player in program history to be named to the All-PSAC and All-Atlantic Region teams in all four seasons at Millersville. This season Dukes led Millersville with 11 goals and 29 points and was third in the PSAC in points and tied for fourth in goals. Dukes went on a tear at the end of the season, recording at least one point in nine of the team's final 12 games. He finishedd his career at Millersville with the fourth most goals (35) and points (88) and sixth in career assists (18).
Vazquez was tied for second on the team in goals (9) and points (22) and was named to the All-PSAC First Team for the first time this season. The Bernville native got off to a hot start on the season scoring three goals in the team's first four games. In his sophomore campaign, Vazquez fired 58 shots, put 28 of those on the goal frame and led the team with four game-winning goals. Vazquez was the only sophomore to be named to the first team and was joined by Mercyhurst freshman Danny Deakin as the only two players in their freshman or sophomore year on the first team.
Goalkeeper Brad Benzing was also named to the second team after posting eight shutouts and recording 59 saves in 2013. Benzing was named to the All-PSAC First Team and earned his first Daktronics all-region honor this year. The redshirt junior posted a 1.06 goals against average and finished the season with a 13-5-2 record.
Fratini was a defensive presence for the Marauders and earned second team recognition. Fratini was the only Marauder defender to be named All-PSAC First Team and helped guide a defensive unit that only allowed 17 goals during the regular season. The Rexmont native was also dangerous for Millersville on free kicks on the offensive side of the ball. Fratini scored four goals from his defender position, inlcuding goals in three straight games at the end of the regular season.
Widdowson will return Vazquez and Fratini next year and also returns 12 of the team's top 15 scorers.
