
Thomas' Personal Best Not Enough as Marauders Fall to ESU

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Junior Amanda Thomas swam her career best in the 200-yard freestyle, but the Millersville women's swimming team fell to East Stroudsburg 142-116 on Saturday afternoon.
The Marauders (3-5) took first place in five events on the day with Thomas' first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle being the first for Millersville in the meet. The Warminster, Pa., native touched the wall in 1:59.49, .41 seconds faster than her previous best time in the event.
Thomas also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing only behind teammate Sarah Bernhardt. Bernhardt ended with a time of 55.14, with Thomas right behind her at 55.48. Both times met PSAC qualifying standards.
Bernhardt, who has begun to taper off in preparation for the PSAC and hopefully NCAA Championships, also took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly. The senior finished with a time of 1:01.14. Teammate Jaime Cessna placed third with her season best time of 1:05.32.
Freshman Grace Magerr, who just broke the school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle on Tuesday, swam to a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. She finished nine seconds faster than East Stroudsburg's Allison Schafer and met a PSAC qualifying standard with a time of 5:23.06.
The Marauders finished one-two in the day's final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay. Brigid Kavanaugh, Becca Anderson, Thomas, and Bernhardt swam the best time when Bernhardt completed the race for the foursome in a time of 1:43.41. Jade Wise, Janelle Laudermilch, Adriana Rodriguez, and Arielle Walbert came in second with a time of 1:49.86.
Millersville will return to East Stroudsburg next Saturday, February 2, to compete in the East Stroudsburg Invitational. It will be the Marauders final competition before the PSAC Championships which run from February 14-17 at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
