Wrestlers Place Fourth in Mid-Penn Duals

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville wrestling team picked up its first two dual wins of the season and earned a fourth-place finish as the host of the 2013 Mid-Penn Duals.

Millersville (2-7) welcomed six other teams to Pucillo Gymnasium Saturday and split its four matches in the tournament. York, ranked No. 14 in Division III, won the event with a 3-0 record. Franklin & Marshall finished as the runner-up after falling to York 22-16 in the championship dual. Shippensburg finished third.

The Marauders scored a 28-15 win over Gettysburg in the opening round but lost 27-15 to Gettysburg in the semifinals. In the wrestleback bracket, the Marauders eliminated Gloucester County College by a 36-10 score before dropping a 28-15 decision to Shippensburg. The loss was the second of the season to the Red Raiders.

Millersville's 197-pounder Joel Suter had missed the previous four duals because of an injury but returned in grand fashion Saturday. He went 4-0 with four first-round pins. His fall of Gettysburg's Mike Sheehen took only 24 seconds.

Heavyweight Brad Ladd also posted a 4-0 record, winning one by fall, two by decision and one by forfeit. 125-pound Sam Oberlander scored three wins. Brock Thompson was also impressive in his first dual action of the season. the 149 pounder delivered a 14-1 major decision over Gettysburg's Eddie Carroll and a 2-1 decision over Gloucester's Cole Cameron to complete a 2-1 day.

The Marauders host the 10th annual "Shorty" Hitchcock Memorial Classic sponsored by SPOTS on Sunday. 250 wrestlers from across the country will be in action beginning at 9 a.m.
